Hanson Pipe & Precast today announced the purchase of the assets of Concrete Pipe, Inc., an Oakboro, N.C.-based manufacturer of 12-to-48 inch concrete pipe used for drainage systems. Acquisition of the facility, approximately 25 miles east of Charlotte, N.C., expands Hanson Pipe & Precast’s reach into North Carolina, providing concrete products to the state’s continually expanding markets.
“We are pleased to have our first pipe and precast facility in North Carolina, which will complement our existing facilities in southern Virginia and reinforce Hanson’s commitment to growing its pipe and precast business,” said Bob Christensen, Hanson’s Northeast region president. “This acquisition also gives us a great opportunity to partner with our sister company, Hanson Brick & Tile, a long-standing business based in Charlotte.”
Concrete Pipe, Inc. began producing dry cast pipe in 1996 and stands for quality products and exceptional customer service, which Hanson manager Bill Heflin will continue to build upon. Hanson Pipe & Precast will offer an expanded line of products, including larger diameter reinforced concrete pipe.
Christensen indicated that the facility will be part of Hanson’s Northeast operating region based in Columbus, Ohio and will be managed through Don Wagner, vice president of the southern Virginia. The Northeast region’s 26 plants produce several products, including those used for community and roadway development, such as reinforced concrete pipe, drainage structures, noise barriers, bridge products, the HansonArch®, QuikSpan® and precast vaults.
